Help Me With Research: What Blogs Do You Read?

I’m doing some research and I need some help. So who better to ask than you all? I’m looking to find your favorite business blogs.

What blogs do you read on a daily or weekly basis?

What blogs do you subscribe to, either via RSS or via email?

What do you read to keep you informed of all things business related?

What blogs do you always seems to share, either via tweet, Facebook post, email, etc.?

It doesn’t have to be just marketing, anything business related will do.

Can you comment and tell me 3 blogs? 5 would be gold! If you have the links great, if not I’ll figure it out. Thank you in advance for your help!

2012 Is The Year of DO

I’ve been reading posts over the last few weeks about people selecting their word or words of the year. Are you familiar with this process? You select words to use as a baseline, guiding your actions as you work to meet your personal, professional and/or spiritual goals for the year.

I’m not new to the “define your word” process. I’ve been a fan of the practice for some time now. However, my life, goals and aspirations are so complex (as is your life I’m sure) that I’ve never been able to clearly define one, two or three words to adequately describe my plan for the year… until now.

You see, it hit me one day. It was a normal day, and as usual random thoughts were bouncing around in my head. All of a sudden it hit me. I have my word for 2012 – DO.

DO. Nothing too fancy, nothing too exciting, but 100% magical. You see, I can research an idea until I’m dizzy. I can toy with concepts and plan action items until I’m blue in the face. I can strategize with the best of them. But you want to know why so many people never realize their dreams? Never live up their potential? Never become all that they are capable of becoming?

They spend so much time reading, researching, and thinking about all their plans, that they never actually execute anything. They fail to DO. I have been guilty of devising far too many plans and failing to execute them. I admit this. We’ve all been there haven’t we?

Now do you see why DO is such a magical word? It’s pretty magical right now isn’t it? I know I could have picked “execute” as my word, but DO just sounds so definitive doesn’t it? It holds so much more power to me, so I figured, go with the simpler word.

And the icing on my cake: I’m sharing my word with you. Which means I am holding myself accountable to the community I’m building over here. So expect changes, ups and downs, and powerful transformations from me, with a few snippets of random nonsense thrown in for good measure. 2012 is my year to DO. Thank you in advance for participating in the journey!

Business Can Bloom with the Season

As the weather changes and we gear up for the hot summer ahead, I am reminded that nature is a great compass. How many of you adjust your business activities with the seasons? All the beauty of nature is in full bloom, is your business blooming as well?

Naturally we spend more time outdoors socializing in the summer. Thus we may stumble upon any number of impromptu business opportunities while going about our daily routines. The question is, are you prepared to do business at any time? Does your elevator pitch need tweaking? How do you get people to notice you and your brand? Do you host summer events, sponsor any sports-related activities, or perhaps take advantage of all the conferences and socials happening during this time of year?

Like many folks from the Northeast, I can’t help but change my attitude a little when the weather changes. When it gets warmer, I mellow out just a bit. I can visualize growth better, and I seem to experiment with new ideas more easily. With all the beautiful flora in full bloom, I can’t help but become inspired by nature’s color palette. I spend more time outdoors, so I get a chance to meet more people as I walk my dog, take a hike, or dine al fresco. Summer is the only time I wear t-shirts and baseball hats, so I make sure they’re branded with my company logo or interesting taglines. Easy conversation starter at the grocery store or bbq!

If you need a lift, or a piece of motivation to get your business going, take a walk outside. Nature has a way of lifting your spirit and stimulating your mind. I’d love to hear if you’re inspired by seasonal changes. How do you use nature’s compass?

Taking My Own Advice

Uh-oh, the month is half-way over. For those of you who understood (and probably joined to some extent) my Happy New Year on April 1st, how has the month been treating you so far?

This month I’ve been focusing on redefining my business actions and vision. More importantly, I’m being completely honest with what I want to do and where I envision myself in the next few years. You know what I’ve figured out? That I don’t EXACTLY know where I want to be, and it’s ok! I envision having a virtual marketing consulting business, but how do I get there, being completely virtual? Do I have a full roadmap to get there? Nope, but I’m working on it. Luckily, I interact with some business visionaries that are already successfully pulling this off. They are helping me to achieve this goal with their words of wisdom and advice. I am so fortunate!

Believe it or not, I take my own advice. I’ve been tweaking my website, launched this blog, and have been doing some spring cleaning in my own business. After assessing my first quarter networking activities, I realize I’m on the right track. I’ve made some great connections, actually more than I anticipated. I organized all my contacts and scheduled which second and third quarter events to attend. Stepping out of my comfort zone has led me to some interesting new acquaintances, potentially leading to future opportunities. In the meantime, I’m enjoying the journey.

I’m ALL IN, Are You?

Last week I participated in a fun Facebook group chat with the publisher of the new e-magazine Going Pro.  (To see the premier issue of this awesome mag, click http://stephaniepollock.com/goingpromagazine/) So we’re chatting and our moderator/publisher Stephanie poses the question: What is possible when you really go ALL IN? Well, this got me to thinking, especially since this is a phrase I use quite often. The problem is, I don’t know the answer…YET.

Have you ever truly gone ALL IN and put forth 99.99% effort to building the business of your dreams, even if only for a short period of time? How much “productive” time do you actually spend daily? I’m not talking about the half-a$$ busy work you do, I’m talking real strategy and execution of your ideas. Be honest: write that number down, and then throw it away!

Two weeks ago I decided that I’m ALL IN for the month of April. I threw this decision out to the universe (and Twitterverse) because I wanted to challenge myself in order to find out what ALL IN really means. So far, I have to admit, I’m having fun embracing the challenge. It’s causing me to be more productive with my time and more aggressive with my business decisions. Rather than half-a$$ it, I’m acting like I have the business that I dream of TODAY. It’s amazing what a catch-phrase can do for you, huh?

So, I challenge you to answer the question: Are you half-a$$in’ or ALL IN? If you’ve never went ALL IN, consider yourself challenged! Put together a just-out-of-reach action plan and for the rest of the month, act like the world is yours for the taking! Join me this month and leave a comment to let me know how you’re embracing the challenge. I’ll certainly share my adventures with you!

Hello world, thy name is Miss Kemya!

Even I can’t believe I started this blog! You see, I’ve been threatening (only to myself) the publishing of this blog for several  months now. As many of my Twitter followers are aware, I have given myself permission for a do-over for 2011, since the 1st quarter started spinning out of control, albeit it in a good way. So, I decided April 1, 2011 is effectively my Happy New Year!

With that said, welcome to Miss Kemya’s Blog, the official blog of www.phiscomarketing.com. I am absolutely certain the content of this blog will dynamically change as time moves on, but I am starting it with the intention of discussing marketing (in all its forms) and fashion (globally speaking). One thing is guaranteed, you will learn a little, laugh a little, and enjoy your time spent here. I invite you to interact with me and partake in this adventure. I am honored to have you join the conversation. Pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee, and stay a while…
